Selecting a Content Management System

In the ever-growing world of technology, it can be difficult to decide which option is the best fit for you – and selecting a content management system (CMS) is no different.

If you Google the term, “content management system,” you’ll find around 500,000,000 results. Where do you even begin when there are so many options to choose from? How do you know which components are important and which ones aren’t? Which CMS is the most secure? Which CMS is supported?

Enter… ExpressionEngine.

From the developers at EllisLab comes a feature-rich content management system that gives users the ability to easily manage their websites without the typical clutter found in many other systems.

Wait… you haven’t heard of ExpressionEngine? That’s okay. Truth be told - a lot of our clients have never heard of this particular CMS, and that’s okay! EllisLab isn’t a company widely known for making a commotion over the release of their product, but instead they focus on delivering an impeccable content management system.

Not sure if this CMS can handle your website? Brands such as Garmin, Pizza Hut, Penny Arcade, Getty Images, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Clif Bar, and Jeff Foxworthy have all trusted ExpressionEngine to handle their sites.

Here are a few reasons why we have chosen to work with ExpressionEngine.

ExpressionEngine is extremely secure. From the beginning, ExpressionEngine was built to deliver one of the most secure content management systems on the market. Security is one of the main priorities of EllisLab. They are continually working with third-party consultants to find vulnerabilities within the system so they can stop them before they become a problem. They hardly find any weak points, but when they do, they develop a fix and release it in record time.
SupportExpressionEngine is both first-party and third-party supported. Many content management systems are typically either first-party supported (supported by the company who created it) or third-party supported (freely supported by a community of developers). It is rare to find a CMS supported by both. As an ExpressionEngine developer, we have direct access to the creators of ExpressionEngine as well as a large pool of our peers to work with.

ExpressionEngine is constantly evolving. Reusser Design was one of the earliest adopters of ExpressionEngine and it’s been a blast to see how it has changed over the years. And trust us, it just keeps getting better and better. In 2015, Ellis Lab released ExpressionEngine 3, which included a completely revamped control panel, added PHP 7 compatibility, new field types, a menu manager, and more. With the most recent release of ExpressioneEngine 4 in 2017, new features such as a revamped update system, repeatable (“fluid”) content fields, global fields, bulk editing, a GDPR consent module and more left us in awe.

EllisLab has done some amazing work with ExpressionEngine throughout the products history and there is no doubt that there will be excellent updates and additions in the years to come. We look forward to being involved in the future of this product.
